Mahoora Elite Camps - Udawalawe National Park

Mahoora Tented Safari Camp Udawalawe is located in a thicket on the eastern boundary of the Udawalawe National Park, surrounded by bush forest. Tents are spread out in order to ensure complete privacy and a true wilderness setting. As the south and west boundaries of the park have no forest patches, our campsite location was carefully handpicked to amplify the feeling of being in the midst of nature.

Our safari camp is situated on the border of Udawalawe National Park to the west, and it neighbors a village with local residents to the east. There are farmlands to the north and south. Although the surroundings are generally very quiet, occasionally you may hear the sounds of a religious ceremony or a local gathering from a distance, especially if they are using loudspeakers. This is a part of the local culture, and we appreciate your understanding. The camp has a supply of earplugs available upon request in such situations.

As the camp is located adjacent to the Park’s boundary, it feels more like living inside the park. There is plenty of wildlife within the campsite, often wandering across from the Park.

An early morning drive to the Park entrance or evening drive back to the campsite can easily be made into a mini safari. The drive can take as little as 20 minutes, but a slower drive to observe the surroundings will be anywhere between 30 to 40 minutes.

The distance between the entrance of the Park and the campsite is a mere 21km, and of this 15km follows the Park boundaries where animal sightings are common. The rest of the drive takes you through semi-wilderness or pastoral villages.

If there is a full day Udawalawe safari, we are able to provide a complete hot lunch served inside the Park without returning to the campsite. This saves time and energy spent on travelling to the camp for lunch. However, clients have the option to go back for their meal and return for the evening safari after enjoying an exquisite lunch back at camp.

The complete Mahoora experience with our professional team is a unique and holistic experience. Luxury safari jeeps, expert game drivers, professional naturalists, snacks / beverages / water / tea & coffee are some that make this experience special. This is unlikely to be offered by traditional hotels as their area of expertise is very different.
